Age of Sigmar: 4th Edition Wish List

I thought it might be fun to post up an article of a wish list for 4th edition real quick. Obviously Im still not very well versed in the game, but I was thinking about what changes Id want to see the other day and figured itd be fine to write it all down. I promise it wont be long. I really like where 3rd edition is right now, so I hope there isn’t too much changing, but heres my list of things that I would change in the new edition:

1.       Double Turn- Number 1 change is hands down get rid of the double turn. This mechanic just feels bad every time. Ive had one come up in probably half the games Ive played, and its mattered every time. I get that they were trying to add in a mechanic to always keep a player in the game, but in my limited experience, its always been a nail in the coffin thing. If Im using it to try and come back, Ive usually already lost, and this just prolongs the inevitable. But more importantly it just creates a not fun player experience. Either you get absolutely crushed by your opponent going twice, which feels awful. Or you crush your opponent, and then they aren’t having fun, which also feels awful. It just needs to go away, do a regular turn based system. I know plenty of people who tell me theyd get into the game if there was no double turn, and now that Im in the game, I agree with them. Its just no fun.

2.       Armor Stacking- I kind of touched on this last time, but the way armor works is not great. If everything else caps at +/-1 this should too. And I get theres things that reduce rend and things that add to armor so its not EXACTLY the same, but hitting a unit with basically a 2+ save against your big fighty unit just feels bad. This should be reserved for really tanky units against things that don’t hit hard. Maybe Im just salty, but this seems like it leads to another negative play experience, especially when you add in other effects like -1 to hit or wound or something.

3.       Buffs- There seem to be a lot of units that can get buffed to the point of hitting on 2s wounding on 2s, and that just seems silly. It seems like every army can get something there, and at that point it just seems like over saturation of something that should be super elite. Not saying this should be removed, but this should definitely be much rarer than it is.

4.       TOW compatibility- I know this would never happen, and Im really reaching here but it is a wish list. I want rules for the factions in both games, and bonus points if the models come with both bases. Players are going to be buying the boxes to use for the other game anyway, might as well help us out.

Like I said, not a long list. If I had more experience I may be able to add more things into there, but those are the things that I personally think need to change. Ultimately Im going to play 4th edition regardless of what it looks like, but these are the elements that stuck out the most to me. Until next time, keep rolling dice!
